Every year millions of Americans undergo surgery. As a patient, it is important for you to be familiar with the surgery being recommended. Any surgery has risks and benefits which you should understand before deciding whether the procedure is right for you.

Don’t be afraid to ask for clarification if there is something you don’t understand. Dr. Montany will take the time to make certain you are fully informed before any decisions are made. You may consider writing down questions ahead of time so that you don’t forget anything. We want you to be completely comfortable and sure about your treatment plan.

Thoracic surgery refers to surgery on the organs of the chest, to include lungs, esophagus, lymph nodes, etc. Dr. Montany does not perform heart surgery. Vascular surgery refers to surgery of the blood vessels beyond the heart, including arteries and veins in the neck, extremities, abdomen and chest. And general surgery encompasses care in a broad range of surgical areas including breast, hernias, gallbladder, digestive, trauma, etc.

No. Sometimes your insurance carrier requires you to have a referral from your primary care provider to a specialist, but we do not require a referral. We are happy to make you an appointment if you think we can be of service.

No. Unless year procedure is accomplished with only local anesthesia, you will need to have someone come with you or be available to come get you to drive you home.

Certainly. If you have had surgery, it is very likely you will have postoperative discomfort. Pain medication can be very helpful toward making you more comfortable. However, doctors are well aware of the growing frequency of narcotic abuse and addiction in our country. You will be provided only the amount of pain medication that Dr. Montany believes you will need during the immediate postoperative. If you have significant pain after the medication runs out, please call the office to discuss the situation.
